Going on a boat tour is usually one of the highlights your trip to Croatia. It’s almost impossible to beat the azure waters, hidden bays and peaceful beaches of the Adriatic.
What many first time visitors don’t realise is that a full-day boat tour, whether a private tour or a group one, isn’t like a typical tour on land. Your space is limited, conditions can change quickly, and your skipper is responsible for everyone’s safety.
There are a few simple things that can make a big difference – not just for the crew, but for your own experience, too. And knowing them in advance is often what turns a good day on the sea into a truly unforgettable one.
Before you hop on the boat
The golden, main advice before stepping onto a boat is to come prepared. Prepared means packing the essentials you’ll actually need for a day trip – but not arriving with half of your wardrobe. There is no need to bring more than a swimming suit, a cover-up, a towel, comfortable shoes, sunscreen and a wallet. Sunglasses, cameras, and snacks are always welcome.
Try to fit your belongings into one bag that’s easy to carry. There’s no point in bringing three outfits for a single day at sea – you’ll be too focused on enjoying the tour for it to be worth the hassle.
The second thing to keep in mind is arriving at the meeting point. Try to be there at least 15 minutes early. The check-in process may seem quick, but when 12 people are boarding at the same time, it can get a bit hectic for the hostess or skipper – especially if there are add-ons such as Blue Cave tickets to arrange.
If you’re unsure about the weather or what to bring on the day of the tour, don’t hesitate to contact us. It’s always better to check in advance than to figure things out on the spot. And for those who have the tendency to get nauseous while traveling, make sure to bring some medication to keep your experience as comfortable as possible.
Your skipper knows best
Your skipper isn’t there to just drive the boat. He or she is responsible for navigation, safety, and setting the vibe for the tour.
If the staff asks you to sit down or wait before jumping in the sea, there is always a reason. Even on a sunny day, sea conditions can change, so it’s important to listen to the people guiding you through the experience. The more trust you put into them, the smoother the experience will be. Don’t worry, you will have plenty of time to enjoy the crystal-clear sea and snorkel in the depths.
An additional tip is respecting the itinerary if you joined a group tour. Try to keep track of time, especially if you’ve agreed on a specific return time to the boat. This is especially important if you have time to wander on land or a swimming stop longer than an hour. Staying too long can delay the whole itinerary.

Sharing the space on board
Try to keep your belongings in one place and avoid blocking walkways. Moving around too much during the ride isn’t ideal when the boat is going at higher speeds.
On group tours, just being aware of others – where they’re sitting, relaxing, or storing their things – goes a long way.
The sundeck is, of course, free to use as much as you like. Not everyone wants to sit in the sun while traveling, but there are always people who prefer it over staying inside the boat. Try to be open to sharing the sundeck. It’s big enough for at least five to six people at once.
Also, keep noise at a reasonable level, be mindful when taking photos, and try to read the vibe of the group – it can make a big difference.
Respect nature along the way
As important as respecting the people on your tour is respecting the places you visit. We’ve mentioned in our previous blog posts, but it’s never wrong to repeat it.
During your travels you’ll come across many stunning views and beautiful locations.
Of course, we want everyone to have a memorable experience – but what matters most is keeping nature unharmed. For instance, this includes not submerging your phone underwater when trying to capture the perfect angle in the Blue Cave.
Any actions that may harm the ecosystem of the Adriatic Sea should always be avoided.
Just like they say in our beautiful Plitvice Lakes – “Take nothing but pictures, leave nothing but footprints and use nothing but time!”
We believe it’s important to stay mindful and do your part, so try to leave every place exactly as you found it.

Keep the vibes alive (but don’t overdo it)
This is simple, but often overlooked. Every boat has its own atmosphere.
On some tours it’s more relaxed, on others more social – but it’s always a shared space. Keep in mind that you should respect the preferences of other guests if you’re on a group tour. Music is always welcome on board, and our staff has a few curated playlists so you’ll likely find something you enjoy.
Drinks are often allowed, especially on private tours, but moderation is key. The combination of sun, sea and alcohol can hit harder than expected, so make sure to stay hydrated and take breaks in the shade.
Be considerate of other guests. Not everyone is looking for the same experience. Some want a relaxed and peaceful day, while others prefer a more lively atmosphere.
We’re aware that keeping both sides satisfied can be a challenge sometimes, but that’s one we’re willing to take. Our staff is always trying to find a middle ground to keep everyone happy.
There are no middle grounds on a private tour, though. Whether your perfect day looks like a peaceful cruise between two islands or a lively, music-filled day out with your friends, we make it come true.

Common mistakes first-time travelers make:
- bringing too many unnecessary items all at once
- underestimating the sun (it gets strong even in the morning)
- not checking the weather or tour details in advance
- not staying hydrated
These are small things, but they often make a big difference in how comfortable and enjoyable your day on the sea will be. Avoiding these small mistakes can really improve your day.
At the end of the day, going on a boat tour in Croatia isn’t just about getting from one island to another. It is a shared experience – one you will remember for a lifetime.
A bit of awareness, respect for the crew and other guests, and a relaxed attitude go a long way.
We’re always here to make sure you have a great time on board, and we’ll do our best to make the experience smooth, easy, and enjoyable from start to finish.
